— Industrial Freight Yard (IFY)

The format of the IFY (which is under construction) is to provide Eastbound and Westbound Yards on either side of the Twin Track East and West Bound Main Lines that run centrally through the four 1220(l) x 600(w) boards. This provides a main “staging area” as well as the opportunity to carry out operations and manage loco changes as necessary. For clarity the East Bound Main runs from left to right and the West Bound Main right to left when viewed from the font of the Modules.

A fifth board (1220 x 600) depicting a Passenger Depot with an at Grade crossing completes the overall module by connecting to the left of IFY Board 4.

It is planned that the IFY will be managed by two Yard Masters, one situated at the West (Left) End covering movements on Boards 1 & 2 with the other managing the East (Right) End covering movements on Boards 3 & 4. The East End Yard Master will also manage the WB Yard Lead that runs onto the adjoining Depot Board.

Through train movements are managed by the allocated Train Engineer who is responsible for ensuring that Turnouts on the Main Lines are set appropriately for through running. All other Turnouts are managed by the Yard Masters accordingly.

Access to and from the Yards is a joint operation between the appropriate Yard Master and incoming / outgoing Train Engineer.

It is planned that all Turnouts will be electrically operated using underboard Servo Motors driven by DCC stationary Decoders. Small Panels may be provided for the two Yard Masters to aid in operation and control. Boards 1-4 are of a standard construction using 9mm Plywood sides and tops with a 3mm foam topping. 3mm Cork is used as the roadbed for the main lines. Board 5 however uses 100mm Foam as the basis for the board top with 4mm MDF sides and fasciae. 3mm cork is again used for the main line roadbed.
